Greetings teacher friends! I hope it's a good week for you! This time of year always feels a little crazy! The countdown isn't QUITE on yet (for most of us at least lol) but it still feels like time is flying away and there's still so much to do! I also have a bad habit around this time of year of daydreaming about next year already, instead of staying in the present. If you're anything like me in that regard, I'd like to introduce you to (in my opinion) the perfect classroom decor theme for the 2025-2026 school year! Introducing... Blush & Blues: A calm and pastel modern classroom decor! (Also, even if you're not anything like me - aka you are currently printing & prepping things for next year already - you will still want to get your hands on this NOW, and just save the printing & prepping for later ;)) Why This Theme When creating classroom decor themes, I usually go in one of two directions: neutral and calming, or colorful and exciting! For this theme, I actually did a little bit of both. The Blush & Blues theme is certainly calming - with its pastel shades of light pink and hues of blues, but at the same time, the variety of color creates a lively environment for learning as well! I also love to tell the story of where I got the exact inspiration for this decor line. Most of my previous decor lines have come from trending themes (like the Dreamy Boho or my Retro Groovy decor lines), or I have put together color palettes that I love (like the Wild & Bright decor) or even from things in my life that I'm obsessed with (like the Eras Tour Decor). This decor line, however, has the silliest of origin stories. I created it to match my exact classroom that I'd be moving into this year. That's right - when I accepted my teaching position abroad in Spain, I started stalking the social media accounts of the school I was hired at. I noticed the shades of light cobalt blue in all the classroom chairs as well as the pastel soft blue in the cabinets. I paired those together, added in a few of my favorite shades of pink, and thus, Blush & Blues was born! Even though this line was custom created for my classroom, it will work in yours too! Again, the calming yet colorful tones make this the perfect decor line for any classroom! Disclaimer: this post refers to setting up a new classroom/moving rooms, but everything referenced can also be for redecorating you classroom and choosing a new theme (even if you are staying in the same room next year) Moving into a new classroom can be so exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. You get so excited for all the things you want to plan in your room, all the ideas you save online and can’t wait to implement… but you’re at a stand still until you get access to the room (which...
If you’re anything like me (or like I used to be at least), the words “state testing” might bring up some dread. It certainly does for the students! Students who are new to taking state testing (third graders) often feel anxious because they’ve never done this before, while my 6th graders have often felt anxious because they’ve done it many times and they know what’s coming (spoiler alert: it isn’t fun for them). I used to hate everything about state testing. It drives me crazy that we are...
What I’ve found as a teacher is the less you explicitly teach social emotional learning, the less you teach anything else. What I mean by this is that kids inherently will have problems and many of them will need help developing tools and coping skills for those. Explicitly teaching students how to show respect and kindness, how to react when they don’t get their way, etc. will reduce the amount of times your math lesson gets interrupted because they just have to hash out what happened at...
