It's Tiiiiiiiime... Happy December 1st!

It's Tiiiiiiime *cue Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You*

December is such a fun time in the classroom because the students have an extra level of excitement around all the holidays and fun activities! I love using this as an opportunity to get as festive as possible for the month!

Here are 5 ways to make your classroom more festive throughout the month of December...

1. Put up a tree / menorah / other holiday symbols

I put up a tree every year, and give the students the opportunity to bring in an ornament to hang if they'd like - or to just help decorate the tree with the ornaments I have. They always get so excited for this!

Also, I always open it up to families who celebrate other winter holidays as well, inviting them to bring in anything that represents their holiday throughout the holiday season. Most years I have had a family bring in a menorah for the season as well as teach our class how to play dreidel!

2. Festive Bulletin boards

Bulletin boards are always a fun way to bring some festive cheer to your classroom or hallway! Some of my favorites from previous years are these Holly Jolly Holidays and Sweater Weather bulletins! Simply print, cut, and hang!

Tip: I print these on cardstock to save and reuse from year to year!

3. Door decor ideas

Another fun way to get festive is will fun door decor! Turn your hallway into a winter wonderland, like my parent volunteer did for me a few years ago!

4. Festive slides

As always, I love using different slides for different seasons! The Festive Holiday Slides and the Neutral Winter Slides are two different ways you can easily incorporate some holiday cheer into your classroom!

5. Play Holiday Music

Whether it's instrumental music while my students are working with a Youtube fireplace or blasting Mariah Carey during break time, this is one of our favorite ways to get festive in 6th grade! I highly recommend trying this too!

Have a Holly Jolly December!!

Disclaimer: this post refers to setting up a new classroom/moving rooms, but everything referenced can also be for redecorating you classroom and choosing a new theme (even if you are staying in the same room next year) Moving into a new classroom can be so exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. You get so excited for all the things you want to plan in your room, all the ideas you save online and can’t wait to implement… but you’re at a stand still until you get access to the room (which...

If you’re anything like me (or like I used to be at least), the words “state testing” might bring up some dread. It certainly does for the students! Students who are new to taking state testing (third graders) often feel anxious because they’ve never done this before, while my 6th graders have often felt anxious because they’ve done it many times and they know what’s coming (spoiler alert: it isn’t fun for them). I used to hate everything about state testing. It drives me crazy that we are...

Greetings teacher friends! I hope it's a good week for you! This time of year always feels a little crazy! The countdown isn't QUITE on yet (for most of us at least lol) but it still feels like time is flying away and there's still so much to do! I also have a bad habit around this time of year of daydreaming about next year already, instead of staying in the present. If you're anything like me in that regard, I'd like to introduce you to (in my opinion) the perfect classroom decor theme for...
